Post #300: Where Do You Live?
A Living Semi-Retired Life newsletter update with a state-by-state, country-by-country subscriber breakdown
I was sort of surprised the other day to look up and notice that the Living The Semi-Retired Life newsletter was approaching 300 published posts.
And, now, here we are.
First, thank you to everyone who subscribes, especially paid subscribers. We’re getting close to 300 of you. Overall, more than 2,500 people subscribe to this newsletter. This never ceases to blow my mind.
And it reaffirms confidence in my decision to triple down on this newsletter by—
Bringing what used to be my Medium articles about money to it.
Feeling more and more everyday like I absolutely will write this newsletter until the day I die. By my math—at age 48 now—you have another 52 years or so of emails yet to come!
Striving to make it my primary source of income shortly after we move to Spain in about a year.
We’re building a neat little community here.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my story and plans as they unfold as well as the money-related content I enjoy writing about so much. And I love hearing from you and about your situations when you choose to contribute. If you prefer to just read, I’m equally as appreciative.
My near-term goal: To reach 300 paid subscribers by the end of the year.
So—

If you pay and want to upgrade to a founding membership, it makes sense. Because I instantly convert founding memberships to comped lifetime subscriptions.
The holidays are coming. If you know somebody who might like this newsletter, please consider gifting a subscription.
A quick update on what to expect during February when me and partner spend a month in Spain and France:
7 posts from each of the seven cities we’re visiting (Barcelona, Girona, Montpelier, Lyon, Paris, Bordeaux and Toulouse) with urban and food photography, cost of living comparisons and general observations as they relate to Living The Semi-Retired Life.
10 posts that take a traditional personal finance or investing topic (think 401(k)s, financial planners, money market funds or accounts) and relate them to the non-traditional path you might be following or want to follow.
I plan to take actual grocery shopping trips in the US and do hypothetical trips to buy equivalent items in Spain and France to highlight differences in cost of living.
We had a lot of great content from Spain and Italy this past February. And we hope to do even better in less than four months!
This post — How To Afford Travel — was among the most popular.
Expect a load of content from what might be my favorite city in the world, Barcelona.
Now, let’s utilize some of the great data Substack provides its authors and get detailed on exactly where people read this newsletter from around the United States and the world.
In the comments, please tell us where you’re from and a little bit about your situation.
