A subscriber suggested I write more about “the value of working past retirement.”
It’s a subject I have touched on previously here and at Medium. Given the focus of my writing—Never Retiring—it’s something I remain interested in and had planned on writing more about.
The feedback prompted me to focus on working in “retirement” and write several posts on it before I had originally planned.
As with pretty much everything we discuss, there’s incredible nuance here. How we work in relative old age—and if and why we do—varies considerably at the individual level.
With that in mind, here’s a rough sketch of how I’ll structure this series (and I will sprinkle posts on other subjects in between):
Part 1 (today’s installment): Why would you want to work when you’re in relative old age?
Part 2: Money strategies to help facilitate working in relative old age.
Part 3: Health and well-being research on working in relative old age—what the data say.
Part 4: The (hopefully) fluid nature of working in relative old age.
I’ll spread these four parts out over the next 2-3 weeks with, again, other content sprinkled in between.
Let’s do part one now.
