Never Retire - What Motivates People To Work In Retirement When They Don't Have To
In the last installment of the Never Retire newsletter, I brought research to your attention that looks at how attitudes on aging impact motivations to work (or not) in retirement.
Today, another study—in the Journal of Occupational Science—focuses on what motivates people to work in retirement. Particularly people who have a pension coming and don’t necssarily need to work.
The results directly relate to the things we discuss regularly about working in retirement.
Lots to look at there. I hope it’s helpful. If nothing else, at least some of it will resonate.
For me, the idea that working in retirement can help maintain physical and mental health. But also the notion that sound physical and mental health can help facilitate working in retirement. Taken together, this finding supports the contention that by working less now—and hopefully preserving your health in the process—you can work longer across the lifespan, allowing for a semi-retired life in your prime and relative old age.
