Never Retire: The Question Of Health Insurance As You Get Older
You won't believe what private health insurance costs in Spain. Or maybe you will.
Funny thing.
Tell someone you’re moving abroad since this past Tuesday night and they immediately assume you just made the decision. It would be amazing if you could throw such a big move together in the span of a few days.
Maybe you actually can. I don’t know.
But I do know that if you want to move to Spain, the process will take—at minimum—a couple of months. For the residence permit we’re applying for—(popularly known as the digital nomad visa)—it takes a minimum of three months if for no other reason, because you need to show three months’ worth of income when you submit your application.
Anyhow—
Another funny thing. When you’re an American—like me—making a move like this, sometimes you can’t believe the way they do things in other countries. Some of what you read and later confirm looks and sounds too good to be true.
If nothing else, these are occasions to realize that we don’t have everything figured out in the United States. Particularly on healthcare. A factor that—in and of itself—could be good enough reason to move to another country, especially if your intention is to Never Retire.
