We are trying to semi-retire. We are definitely in the haves / the one-percent etc.
Our financial planning has shown we definitely have enough for a very good standard of living. We are going to spend about 8 months of the year in South Africa; a lot of poverty and unemployment there. To Rocco’s point: we cannot solve it. We can though be good guests and spend some money.
I tend to agree. I do think we're seeing that not-so-fine line being breached between spending that helps drive economies and spending that can drive more inequality.
The thing is that it's an impossible situation. Bigger than any group of us. And it's really what the system relies on. That your need and desire to live to the best of your ability and to satisfy your dreams and goals will have to take a backseat to really, truly doing anything about such complicated and impossible problems.
The keyboard warriors and such have a rough time understanding this. The people actually doing the hard work - the true activists - are up against this every day. It's a struggle when you care so much and constantly fight, but have to settle for occasional incremental change that doesn't amount to a blip on the radar.
Thanks for the chance to publish. I'll shout out On Repeat and The Riff all day long. I'm not blowing smoke up your ass. It's the best music writing on the internet. Even Rolling Stone is thin as hell these days. Again, it goes back to passion.
It's crazy to look back as you hit the midway point. Puts a lot more emphasis on what to do with the next 50 years. Here's hoping...
Had me smiling.

I like this response, Olaf. "Be good guests and spend some money." Sounds like a plan to me.
“I have done a lot of cool shit in the last 37 years.”
You sure have! Thanks for shouting out The Riff as well.
For anyone scrolling the comments: I might be biased, but the article Rocco wrote for The Riff is well worth your time.
Here's the link to it: https://medium.com/the-riff/listening-to-spotify-will-never-be-exciting-73a087ddac80 It's about what Top 40 radio used to be and how the way we listen to music now just doesn't deliver the passion, the real social connection.

"It’s these flavors of fear that the doers overcome to do cool shit." - what a great line.
Let me know if you want to meet any of those days while you're in BCN!
