I had a thought the other day while walking.
Today, I’m turning that thought into action as a fun little interactive perk for paid subscribers to the Never Retire: Living The Semi-Retired Life newsletter.
But first, as we approach 200 paid subscribers, you still have a chance to get one month added to your membership or, if you’re #200, have it converted to a lifetime subscription.
So my thought converted into action goes a little something like this—
From time to time, I will let paid subscribers to my newsletter read an article I have scheduled to publish on Medium a couple to a few days ahead of time.
As you read the article, I invite you to copy and paste (highlight) a section or two into the comments here on Substack, then add in your two cents on the subject matter.
If it fits (not if you agree or disagree, but if it flows with the thrust of the article), I will intersperse your two cents into my article.
Best case scenario: I get insightful or otherwise useful commentary that adds color and a different perspective to my work on Medium, thereby increasing the synergy that exists between these two platforms.
Sidenote: These days, more than a few people are whining and complaining that Substack is better than Medium or vice versa or Medium is dying.
All bull shit.
#1: View the two platforms for what they are—complementary, synergistic and easily the best outlets for storytelling on or offline.
#2: Stop externalizing the struggle to succeed as a writer.
Second best case scenario: I receive no response and paid subscribers get to read and review a Medium article before it goes live on Medium. Maybe I’ll go back to the drawing board and try again at a later date.
With that, here’s the Medium article set to publish Monday morning.
But first, one of my favorite images from February’s time in Valencia, Spain—
